Metro Network In India


 As of 2021, the total length of metro rail tracks in India is around 740 kilometers, with operational metro systems in 18 cities. Here is a breakdown of the metro network in some of the major Indian cities:

 

Delhi Metro: The Delhi Metro has a total length of around 389 kilometers and is the largest metro network in India. It consists of 10 lines and serves the National Capital Region of Delhi, as well as the nearby cities of Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, and Gurugram.

 

Kolkata Metro: The Kolkata Metro has a total length of around 27 kilometers and is the oldest metro network in India, having started operations in 1984. It consists of a single line serving the city of Kolkata.

 

Chennai Metro: The Chennai Metro has a total length of around 54 kilometers and consists of two lines. It serves the city of Chennai and its suburbs.

 

Mumbai Metro: The Mumbai Metro has a total length of around 45 kilometers and consists of one operational line, with several other lines under construction. It serves the city of Mumbai and its suburbs.

 

Bangalore Metro: The Bangalore Metro has a total length of around 42 kilometers and consists of two operational lines, with several other lines under construction. It serves the city of Bangalore and its suburbs.

Nagpur Metro: The Nagpur Metro has a total length of around 22 kilometers and consists of one operational line, with several other lines under construction. It serves the city of Nagpur and its suburbs.

 

Other cities in India with operational or under-construction metro systems include Kochi, Jaipur, Bhopal, Agra, Kanpur, and Surat. The government of India has also proposed several new metro projects in various cities, which will further expand the metro network in the country.
